Rufus T. Barleysheaf: I've known about Alienware for years now, but had only ever known one person who owned one. I knew the reputation, I knew the look, I knew the reviews. So I replaced my 17" VAIO with this behemoth. Let's review.
FIRST: Sleek, black, huge, heavy - for a laptop. But this is not the kind of laptop to tuck under your arm and lug around the office; you set it down and PLAY. Same goes for the power supply - the thing is comically over-sized. I felt like a hobbit holding it! But with a need for 250W, it has to be that way.
SOUND: Without a doubt, the best and richest sound I've ever heard out of a laptop. Bass is strong, the treble powerful. No tinny, cruddy speakers, these.
Jonny Tran(Canada): If you are in the market for a powerful, jaw-dropping beast of a laptop, you've found it. Keep in mind that this review is about this laptop with this exact configuration as other configurations may differ.
In The Box:
* 9.25"(D) x 11.25"(W) Alienware (Hard) Mouse Pad with Alienware Logo.
* A packet with your Safety, Environmental, and Regulatory Information. Alienware Product Information and a Alienware M18x R2 Resource DVD.
* A box with the Power Brick (Adapter) and cord.
* 1 Alienware M18x R2 Laptop inside a nice felt case with Alienware Logo. The laptop measures 17"(W) x 11.5"(D) x 2"(H)
Rosanne (Las Vegas, NV USA) : The advantage to all of that aluminum is excellent heat dissipation. Also, there are dual air intakes and dual exhausts in the back, directing the heat away from you. (Too many laptops vent to the side!) Playing Borderlands 2 at max settings, the laptop got slightly warm but nowhere near the point of discomfort. So it may weigh down your lap, but it won't singe your short-n-curlies.
THE ALIEN FACTOR: Sexy light schemes, MASSIVELY configurable touchpad, set of bonus keys for gaming on the left side of the keyboard, tons of peripheral slots. They know their audience.
PERFORMANCE: This is difficult to rate, because nothing I could do was the least bit challenging to the system. "Crysis 3, maximum settings? YAWN. Tell me when you have some DIFFICULT software to run." You are going to have 1-2 years after buying this system of total max-settings freedom. No lag, drag, or latency doing anything.
SEAN SEEBRAN (Trinidad and Tobago): This is not your average laptop, the description states that it is 17 pounds, maybe that is the total shipping weight because the actual item weight is 13.6 pounds in this configuration (so says my digital scale).
The overall length of the power cord is 150 inches (12.5 Feet) which is pretty long, the power brick is pretty big but not a problem. Battery life is yet to be determined but the manufacturer states 4 hours plus.
The fit and finish of this laptop is great, the Black Anodized Aluminium is beautiful, the palm rest has a nice felt-like feel to it. Under heavy use the left side tends to get a little warm as this is where the hard-drive is located.
The keyboard is a pleasure to type on and is fully colour customizable by the user, there is slight flex to the keys under heavy pressure but nothing to stress about, certainly not a deal breaker.
