Charles Marslett "Old man Texas" (Pflugerville, TX United States): The first thing that you'll notice is that it's extremely lightweight and is very uncomplicated. This is something that my 87 year old mother-in-law would be able to use right out of the box. Since she's never used a computer before, that says a lot. Many of the everyday apps that you use on a daily basis, are preloaded into the device. It comes with things like YouTube, Gmail and other Google products, and there are literally thousands of free apps available. It starts up very quickly and according to Google, updates are installed automatically. I've found all applications to run smoothly and quickly.
M. Carlisle (Dallas, Texas): The laptop arrived in 3 days in the original Dell packaging which was fairly protective of the unit being shipped.
Start up was surprisingly fast with no issues at all.
I am an avid Windows 7 user and was a bit reluctant going to Windows 8 due to the Metro UI interface.
I did a bit of reading of tutors on the net during the time the unit was in transit It was an easy transition to Windows 8 for me it does have the familiar desktop (with no start-up menu) and the Metro UI stat-up screen it's very easy to switch between the desktop and Metro screens.
All in all I had about a 30 minute learning curve before I was fairly comfortable with Version 8.
The more I use it the more I like Windows 8 coupled with this laptop.
Jorge Malco(Ci, USA): I got my Dell and its just OK. If you type a lot and fast you might consider something else because the keyboard is not always responsive and I have to go back and add letters. From here on out I am going to stop doing that on tis review and give it a fair shot to se how many words get down just so you can see hat it can be a pain. I tink its just a poor layout of keyboard positioning. Im not sure. Windows 8 sucks so I was able to find a Windows 7 replica and dowload it. I have tried a HP and Acer and returned both but I will stick with tis one mainy because I have to real reason to return it other ta I dont like it. H's and N's are definitely a problem. I like it because the wireless sniffer is better than the HP but the range sucks. You will need a repeater if you want any good signal. I would not buy it again.
Frequent Shopper(California): My new laptop had 2 issues - mouse click not working well and speaker made extra noise. The first problem Dell sent a technician to my home to replace the hardware the next day - no charge no hardship, even followed up to make sure the service went satisfactory. The second problem about the speaker, Dell technician upgraded the speaker software over the phone and the problem was taking care of. I was so pleased with their outstanding technical support.
