Laptop Lenovo IdeaPad Y510p Deals & Reviews

Gordon Patterson (USA): I have to admit, I was a bit concerned when I first purchased this product and was waiting on shipment because I realized there was an SLI version for only $200 more. However, when I received this laptop, IT CAME WITH A GT750M SLI ALREADY INSTALLED (not to mention the bluray player as well!). This laptop config is WELL worth the price with the 4th gen i7 processor, 16 gb of ram, 1TB of HD and 24gb of SSD, and TWO nvidia GT750M SLI! I instantly downloaded all my games and booted up Guild Wars 2 first. It ran like a CHARM; all settings maxed and doing World Vs World with huge battles.
William N(NY): I have had the y510p for about 5 days. Other than being a finger print magnet I found it to be a extremely fast laptop. The screen is NOT glossy but has a fine textured anti- glare finish. I have a dell 2713h and it is every bit as good! Nicest screen I have seen on a laptop other than a retina display. The keyboard is very comfortable and has a good feel to it. Like the backlighting and easy to adjust brightness. The only drawback is the 5200 rpm hdd which I am swapping out with an ssd. I will move the hd to the drive bay as I rarely need the second graphics card. Not a big issue.
C. Hammaker (Houston, Texas United States): Received my y510p today. It indeed came with two NVIDIA GeForce GT 750m cards (one of which was in the laptop's ultrabay). It appears that the laptop comes bundled with an optical blue ray drive. It is confusing when you open the box because the little box containing the blue ray drive just says "Removable DVD Burner." However, when you take the burner out of its box you'll see that it has the Blu-Ray logo on it. The device is a Matshita DB-MLT UJ262 unit, which searches show is a blue ray readable/writable drive.
Dueling Glove (The Infamous)(Ca): Ordered this computer based on the impressive specs and specifically because it had a blu-ray drive. I happily paid the extra for the blu-ray drive but when I got the machine it wouldn't play blu-rays. The drive would recognize the disc but the software (Power DVD 10) wouldn't support it. I updated the drivers/software but still no dice. Searched online and found that others are having the same problem. Apparently I need to upgrade to the "ultra" version of the software (at an additional cost of course)to get blu-rays to play. So I pay $1300 for a computer only to get an unexpected additional software cost to get the machine to work as it's supposed to work? Why advertise, include, and upcharge for a blu-ray drive that's useless? The whole thing reeks of extremely poor quality control and feels like a ripoff.
