Laptop Alienware M15X Deals & Reviews

Colin Thompson (San Fernando Valley): I ordered my Alienware M15x through the Dell website on 12/3/2009. Delivery occurred on 12/18/2009, which was the original order anticipated build completion date. Nice! The laptop is replacing a home-built custom quad-core Cosmos gaming PC.
During the purchase process, I opted for the RAM upgrade to 4GB @ 1333MHz, upgraded the video card to the 260m (and got a $50 Dell promo gift card from this), got the 1080p screen, and upped the hard drive to 320GB. I subscribe to Steve Job's notion that Blu-Ray is a bag of hurt, so I stuck with the DVD/CD slot burner.

Shanerrific (Austin, Texas): I got this computer last week and I've logged soooo many hours on it already its ridonkulous. Plays wow good. Super fast for editing photos (I'm a photographer so I opted for a larger hard drive). I will use this machine until it dies on me. Screen is crystal clear, boot times are fantastic. Good, solid, stable machine for gaming runs cool and we all know alienware isn't surpassed by looks. Get one and get the enjoyment I have from mine! Hoo-yah alienware!

Bass89man (Towson Maryland): I bought this computer about a year ago. I've had several problems with it. The keys on the computer have started to break off of the computer. I am not rough with my electronics. I take very good care of them. This cheaply made keyboard looks pretty with LED lights but is not very sturdy. I have also had several hard drive crashes with this computer. The first few times i was able to reformat the computer and after sitting on the phone with tech support and installing all the drivers, the computer was back up and running. The Tech support is good as long as you are under their warranty.

Simon G. Tsegay (California): What I didn't realize was that I'd lose a ton of data and work because the system would spontaneously restart WITHOUT warning... several times atleast every week, and occasionally 3-4 times daily. I'm not talking about the system overloading with too many CPU/RAM processes and heavy usage... I'm talking about the system being idle, maybe a word processor running, and then it just blacks out and restarts. No save, no warning. Also, the USB ports simply stop working after the system has been over a few hours. After I reset the system to factory settings 3 times, I gave customer service a call. They recommended updating the BIOS and all drivers, then uninstall a whole crap load of updates that they said might be causing the conflicts. Still, it didn't help.

Laptop Dell Adamo 13 A13-6349PWH Deals & Reviews

Greg L. Stewart (San Antonio, TX USA): Excellent machine, very comparable to the new Macbook Air. Recently decided to run Windows 7 as my primary OS, and this machine doesn't disappoint. Purchased through Dell directly for $824 for the Pearl version with SL9600 (2.13Ghz, 6mb cache) processor and 4GB ram, all other specs same as this one. Currently sells for $899 for the Onyx version, suggest you purchase direct. Negatives are few - battery life not as good as the Air, the screen backlighting is obtrusive at times, the speakers and all the ports are on the back (not ideal). Overall though, very responsive and well made ultra light laptop.

R. Hemmer "ontheroad reader" (Dallas TX): I purchased the pearl white Adamo last year for Christmas and loves the color, weight, and style. Games like the Sims played well as long as I didn't add too many extra expansion packs. In August the computer stopped charging. A Dell rep came out and replaced the motherboard and the charging cord. By the end of October it turned on but nothing happened. Again, a new motherboard came this time with a new screen. Dell has agreed to send another computer since the parts did not fix the issue.

Rick(USA): I just received this laptop yesterday and at first look I was impressed with the overall look and build quality.
The second I powered it up for the first time, the fan went nuts! It was spinning at full RPM speed which isn't normal on a cold start. I thought this would soon go away but after 30 minutes of web browsing and the laptop at a great temperature the fan did not slow down one bit. Fans are normally supposed to adjust the speed to compensate for the computers temperature but this laptop failed to do so and it got really annoying hearing a turbine sound constantly.

Charles in Montreal (Montreal, Quebec): Super solid build, quiet and flawless with SSD, just wonderful unit. Superb design - a Mac Air equivalent for PC but better in many ways. A few negatives - the keyboard letters can be hard to see and prefer the chiclet type board. Overall excellent though perhaps a bit expensive for some but IMHO worth the little bit extra for real quality. Reminds me of my Volvo - rock solid and satisfying to own.

Laptop Dell AX-3600GSL Adamo XPS Deals & Reviews

W. Lefkowitz "-bill" (San Antonio, TX, US): Got the Adamo xps for work. I do a lot with microsoft office including outlook and onenote. I couldn't have asked for a better machine. thin and easy to carry (esp with extended battery to curl fingers around). easy to open, very comfortable keyboard for standard typing. can use on lap without discomfort despite footprint because it's light. solid state drive is big enough for my use. battery life is good, not great. found a good solution is to have a plug for work and one for home. lasts over four hours (through all but the most horrible meetings) and I only use it in power-saver mode with screen at one step above dim - good for indoors. I also have one of those logitech nano receiver mice and not bluetooth.

Kevin Horton (Scottsdale, AZ USA): Acquired this notebook from the Microsoft Store in Scottsdale, AZ and was very happy with the setup and initial performance. Didn't have success, tho, with an external USB DVD player purchased with it. Ended up ordering a (expensive!) DVD/Blu-Ray player for the Adamo direct from Dell and it works great...just one USB port required. Also purchased an extended life battery through Dell....which brings me to the one big complaint I have with this machine. So I now have two batteries to use with this notebook, but it is NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to swap the battery out. Seems simple...there's a typical slider on the bottom to supposedly release the battery, but it won't come out.

Adil Ahmed "Adilcomp" (austin Tx. USa): This is how a laptop must be design. the lightness of this laptop makes you want to carry it around anywhere. I sometimes feel bad leaving this computer sitting there without me doing nothing on it. To avoid that, I always find something doing on it. It is fast, takes less than 12 seconds for me to be on the desktop when turned on. Keyboard is first class, and mouse is the best. Screen brightness may be too bright but you can adjust it. I travel with this and I get a lot of interesting remarks. People can't even turn it is a computer until i confirm it. The computer is very fast for me activities. I do audio editing on it, I use photoshop as well on it. Though this is meant to be a light activity computer, it does every heavy duty. This laptop is often mistaken as a mac when you take it around, except it is far superior than a mac.
Jack Mcdowell (Buenos Aires, Argentina): The XPS Adamo came out some time ago -- it is nearly 2012 as I write this -- but I finally broke down and got one, brand new from an EBay seller. In short, I am floored by the design and technology that went into this -- 128 SSD at a time when solid state drives were really not big -- amazingly thin, and this thing is a head turner wherever I go in public. It is interesting, considering that Ultrabooks are now flooding the market, that the Adamo XPS was so ahead of its time, and made by Dell, which you would normally not associated with something like this. My only fault, as others have noted, is the battery design -- you really need to do it carefully to get the battery off and I think they could have re-thought this. But in general I am amazed that Dell did not continue with this specific line of Adamo -- they were WAY ahead of the pack -- or at least equal to MacAir at the time this came out and this was really a complete re-think of the laptop design.

Laptop Dell Latitude D830 Deals & Reviews

David Bower (Houston, Texas, USA): We bought our Dell Latitude D830 in April of 2008 and have never had any sort of problem with it. It has always done the job required of it without any difficulties at all and worked perfectly right out of the box.
Admittedly we have not been a heavy user of the D830 and mostly use it around the house when we need some freedom to do our work somewhere other than our home offices. It has not been exposed to extremes of temperature and has not been dropped or otherwise subjected to abuse.

Suptrniq "nerd" (Puget Sound): I spend more time in Linux Mint 9 LXDE than I do in Windows. When I'm not in Linux Mint 9 LXDE, I'm either test booting Linux Distros from CD / DVD, using Sun VirtualBox to boot test downloaded ISOs, or creating or booting from Linux USB.
I've run just about every version of Ubuntu from version 9 up to / through version 10, Linux Mint (HIGHLY recommended - light on resources, user friendly): CrunchBang, Knoppix, Fedora 14, Puppy Linux, GeexBox, ZorinOS, Back-Box (Network Diagnostics, Network Security Toolkit also run without a hitch.
It has problems with Gnome 3.0 / Unity, and the latest versions (11.*) of Ubuntu as well as running 3D graphics or for that matter HD video.

George "shakyphotogragher" (Tonawanda, New York United States): The keyboard is "clackier" than the quiet D620's, but I'm getting used to it. The speakers on the D830 are larger and placed to either side of the keyboard resulting in superior sound (but still no bass). The trackpoint was essential for me, although as a desktop replacement I more often use an external USB mouse. The display is bright and inviting; the brightness automatically dims when on battery power (customizable in BIOS and anytime with special keystrokes). The D830 cannot compare to the processing power in newer PCs, but this is the fastest system I have ever owned. Even though it was not designed for Windows 7 I find it zippy for all my normal browsing/streaming tasks. Battery life is a surprising 3+ hours right now. Note that I have not attempted use of demanding software and the D830 is not for 3D gaming.

Franky(Japan): My Dell D830 15.4" is equipped with a 2.2GHz Intel Core2Duo processor, 2 GBs of installed memory and a 90 GB hard drive. The build quality of Dell's business-oriented Latitute line from this era I believe is quite good. I already own a Dell D620 14.1" laptop that I like and wanted to stick with what I knew but was also looking for a desktop replacement. The most noticeable difference between the two, besides the size and weight difference, is that the D830 is MUCH quieter. The larger cooling system doesn't run at full speed except under full processing power and even then it isn't as noisy. The D620 runs at full speed with a higher pitched whine at all times. Even the Logitech N200 cooling pad cuts its down by only a little. The D830 is an update to the Dx20 Latitute line, so perhaps that specific issue was addressed.

Laptop Dell Latitude D610 Deals & Reviews

Robin (Down East): I bought one of these laptops two months ago. It has been working just fine. Today Microsoft told me that the license is not valid. It has a valid certificate of authenticity on the back but does not have a second "refurbished" CoA. When I look at the internal System Properties/General tab it says "XP Corporate" which means it was covered under a volume/site license which can not be transferred or sold. I will probably have to buy a fresh copy of XP ($150) and re-install.

Colbert L. Boyd "Bert Boyd" (Roanoke, VA): I was skeptical about purchasing a refurbished D610. It has worked like a charm the speed and capacity are suitable for my needs. It's a great home computer, I don't have to do any heavy computing with it but it seems quite capable to take on any job.
The only thing that could be better is the brightness of the screen. I need to do some research to see if I can make adjustment in the screen brightness.
I purchased the updated anti-virus and malware software and updated my router, it accepted all I could throw at it and works just fine.

Autumn Jackman (oregon): I purchased this laptop as a Christmas gift for my daughter. It was specified as being in B condition. This made me a little nervous as to what I would receive. It came with a small wear spot in the paint on the key board. Other than that it looks like new and seams to be functioning just fine. Its a much sturdier machine than some of the lower end / like priced units I looked at in the department stores. My daughter loves it and I'm very satisfied with the value.

Theodore Gordon "Ted" (Danbury, CT USA): I purchased a refurbished Dell Laptop with low expectations. And I got, I believe, a much sturdier computer than I expected. I really hadn't wanted a Dell, but that was what was available at the time. I didn't give it 5 stars simply because I do not believe everything is perfect.
It operates well at speed for my relatively simple needs, and is complete with OS for a very reasonable price. Even the battery has a little life in it .. it is good for about an hour. I bought it to replace a Lenovo laptop that I have had for years, and relied upon until it had a disagreement with a glass of tea.

Laptop Dell Latitude D820 Deals & Reviews

Frank (IA, USA): This machine is extremely durable. Despite what others might say about it running apps slowly, they don't know how to manage their OS. This machine can run any application, including Adobe Creative Suite apps well. Sure, it's not the fastest thing on the market, but it's a 2.0 dual core CPU, it's a great deal, and for any student/office person trying to save money while still getting things done, it's a great buy. The hardware holds up great, and don't let others tell you it's slow because of how they treat their OS.

Todd Bettis "Todd B." (Jacksonville, FL USA): This is a great laptop, solid, easy to use, I like that it locks when closed. I didn't find it to be slow as others have said. The keyboard keys are slightly raised, which I liked. The only minor things I didn't like was no numbers pad, so I had to use the numbers across the top, it's a very HEAVY laptop, but worst of all, the battery life was really bad. Two hours max, and it wasn't just my battery, I ordered a backup and it was the same way.

Donna Davis (Oklahoma City, OK): My 12 yr-old step-son needed a laptop for middle school. I have a Latitude D800 myself, so setting this up for him was all very familiar. It's not a speed demon, doesn't have all the latest and greatest, but for doing homework assignments it is more than adequate. And not being "all that" discourages him from installing web-enabled multiuser games that could get him hacked and leave me cleaning up the mess (he's not a computer geek; I kind of am).

Mj (BG, OH): It's an OK laptop that does the job. But I would agree with the other reviewed that "it should run faster" considering the specs. In comparing the specs vs. my old C640, it's got double the memory, double the CPU, double the harddrive, etc... yet I only see a marginal performance improvement. I have run windows XP, Vista, and wasn't particularly impressed with the performance of either of them. I'm running 2003 server and it seems to be better now. There is a lot of harddrive noise. There is also a problem with feedback on my telephone when I get close to the computer... presumably due to a faulty ground somewhere on the laptop. It's also a bit heavier then I would like.

Laptop Dell Latitude E6400 Deals & Reviews

Katerina "Kat" (Kentucky, USA): I've owned my Dell Latitude E6400 for about six months now, and have been working with it almost daily -- running a bunch of web development and graphics editing software. Have not had any issues with this laptop that would make me regret buying it, overall -- very positive experience. The performance is solid, I had Win XP Pro on it, and now upgraded to Win 7 Pro, and it runs like a charm! The battery life is very good (I have a 9-cell battery) -- the longeste I've kept the laptop running non-stop is 4 hours, and never needed to plug back in; the screen size (14") is a good balance for travel and working in comfort. The built-in wireless adapted sometimes needs to be restarted (there is a switch on the side -- turn it on and off to restart the wireless, not a big deal at all), but I only noticed that this needs to be done after the system comes out of hibernation.

Cordless4Ever "Cordless4Ever" (South Florida): I bought this laptop about 3 years ago and it still works fine I replaced my hard drive for more memory but it's only for people who don't do gaming because it lags a lot. So this laptop was meant for business, school, etc besides gaming. I would say this is a low end laptop not the best ones out there these days but I would say this is really light and portable I bring this every where with me every time my kids and I go to starbucks.

Durr D. Dawg "X" (Clearfield, Utah, USA): This was my first laptop and I'm not (really) disappointed. For a few more $$$'s I could have had a larger hard drive (this one being an 80GB) but no serious problem if you augment it with the 256 GB flash drive I chanced upon to use as my storage.. I haven't gone through everything that this laptop offers (forget the norton and use another product). For the price I'm totally satisfied with this Dell.. No built-in web cam but that's not a mark against it in my book as I do not use them anyway.

Tim Broder (Pleasantville, New York United States): I bought a used <Dell latitude E6400> laptop from Red Tag Computers. When it arrived I noticed the laptop was packed nice and tight with pieces of foam wrapped around the entire laptop. I would not be able to pack it that well if I were to ship it to somebody. As Amazon's "invoice" is a joke because it does not include the serial number of the product in its "invoice", Red Tag sent me its invoice which did include the serial number, so I can prove it is my laptop when a need arises. The laptop was clean and has been functioning as described by Red Tag. I will definitely buy another product from Red Tag.

Laptop Dell Latitude D630 Deals & Reviews

The Man (Detroit, MI USA): I bought this laptop directly from dell Financial Services auction on ebay. I did not even know that they have it here on Amazon Marketplace too. Even though the description said manufacturer refurbished the laptop I received looked like new. It came with power adapter and a Dell Windows XP Reinstallation CD and built in Intel PROSet Wireless Card. Absolutely no bloatware is included.

Vanessa (North Idaho): I,ve been a pc tech for 20 years and my dell d630 is awsome the keyboard is a little worn but got one off of amazon for 18 dollars also i added 4gb of ram. Had to get a new harddrive i had the warranty but the sent me a new one quicly with no fuse or trouble my only regret is paying double from tigerdirect instead of buying from amazon i know next time.

J. T. Kirk "Sam" (Seattle, WA) : I purchased this laptop to give myself something to tinker with while recovering from surgery. The system has been working perfectly for the last 2 months and is probably the best bang for the buck for a laptop refurb.
The versitility of this machine allows for a second battery or hard drive to be installed in the module bay. I purchased a used docking station which also includes a bay where the battery can be charged or the HD or DVD-ROM module can be used.
It is always a roll of the dice when you buy refurbed or used computers and parts and sometimes you will get a defective unit but I am very happy with this purchase.

Sue C Que (killeen tx usa): This computer is a great novice computer, it has all the necessary features of an entry level PC, without the junk that is usually installed. The RAM installed is adaquate, however an additional megabyte makes this PC work much better. This PC has no media slots, stereo speakers, web camera, or microphone, each of which can be purchased later. For e-mail, word processing, internet browsing, or spreadsheet calculations, this is much better than a net-book.

Laptop Dell Precision M6500 Deals & Reviews

Philip Menke (Paris, France): I've been using Dell computers from Optiplexes with 486 processors onwards, and never had big nasty issues with them. OK, the mice on some of the older lattitudes somethimes would go funny but that's it. Those boxes would go on for ever. Now, about two years ago I was up for a replacement, and as business was good, and I need a machine with a lot of oomph so I can run several VMWares at a time, they told me I could get one of the more powerful machines Dell was making at the time: The Dell Precision M6500. Big box, intel I7, 16 gigs of memory, big 17" screen. Sounds nice eh? It wasn't full hate on first sight, but on first touch, that machine is _heavy_.

Aussiebat (Denver, CO USA): I bought from EZbuycafe and spent a little more buying refurbished rather than used. I have been more than pleased with my purchase and could kick myself for not doing this a year earlier after spenting $400 on a new laptop (HP) that was a waste of time. My entire setup with monitor was around $300. Despite a few small smudges it almost looks new. The speed is very good, and handles the large files I'm dealing with in making a short film/video with ease. I have more than enough USB ports and ports for all kinds of other devices. Can't speak for others, but I think I got a deal in terms of price and computing capacity. Thank you seller!!!

ADouglasAdamsfan (LV, NV usa): Ans that's without the Chernobyl-sized external PSU (if you use a smaller, non 240 watt unit, the machine slows down. Considerably. And it doesn't charge, which isn't that big of a deal because even when fully charged with a new battery you're not going to get anything beyond a meagre 90min battery life. Not enough to watch an inflight movie but that doesn't matter, as hey, this box doesn't fit on your average economy class tray either. Or business for that matter. The only issue is that it hardly fits in the overhead bins on a ATR 42 either. After two years, the innards are fairly new. All of them.

Jean S. Hickey: The outside aluminium shell is durable though, together with the 512Gb HD is the only part of the computer that hasn't been replaced by Dell Support. (If you're ever going to get a Dell PC, make sure you tick the "keep HD" option in the warranty options. You'll need it). The machine is big, unwieldy, and prone to breaking. The shell latch is vulnerable, the inside very prone to overheating. The outside to; this is not a laptop unless you want your lap to be cooked. The Dell Precision gets very, very hot. You probably could cook an egg on the bezel. I however do not get the impression that all that power is going to the CPU; the machine is actually quite slow in some respects; Booting Windows 7 (granted, not from a SSD) takes about four minutes, starting a browser can take up to twenty seconds. It does run a few VM's simultaneously, however, make sure you shut these down, before the machine hibernates. The box has a tendancy not to be able to wake up from hibernation.

Laptop Dell Precision M6400 Mobile Workstation Deals & Reviews

Backbutton "Notify, Confirm & Assure" (Connecticut): I have had my M6400 Covet for almost 2 years now. It is a great desktop replacement, but portability is not a strong suite. I've carried it on trips but it is just too heavy--best as stationary.
Performance wise, no compliants, runs anything. It has the QX9300 Quad Core and I have it at 8 GB out of 16 GB max; it is fast, but upgrading to 16 GB is cost prohibitive for me now. Running Windows Vista 64 Bit. Have 2 hard drives installed. The laptop screen is beautiful to behold, but I use it docked with a 24 inch external display at 1920 x 1200, a IBM keyboard and three mice--it is a desktop replacement for me.

David Bellwood (NY): My version of the Precision M6400 came with the full 12Gb of RAM and the Intel Core 2 Duo T9900 3.07 GHz processor, somewhat upgunned from the boilerplate listing. It also came with a Seagate 500Gb 7,200rpm HDD. I happened to have its twin, so I installed the pair in a RAID0 configuration. I have an Intel Quad Core Q9100 processor which I will be installing in place of the T9900. Even though the computer is 4 years old, with its video card, I have a unit which will do everything I want to do in Photoshop and DxO for years to come; and I can always upgrade the video card too.

Nasser Borquet (Costa Rica): The Dell is a thing of beauty, at least to my eyes - fine industrial design executed to perfection in excellent materials, no corners cut, no unnecessary flourishes. Every time I pick it up and put it across my knees - yes, I don't have a desk to put it on - I'm a happy camper. The keyboard is wonderful to type on, the screen is crystal clear and the colour depth stunning, the touchpad and the buttons, and the pointing stick are finely tuned and responsive. Almost every aspect of the computer can be adjusted in the BIOS or in on-screen menus. People comment about the system's weight, but that is a necessary price that has to be paid for the build, including in my case two hard drives, and absolute rigidity and protection of the internal components.

H. Mahe "Shadyrose" (Phoenix, AZ): If you want to do anything more than browse the web! As the other reviewer said it *should* be great for gaming...but it's not. It has issues running games on the lowest settings (Rift, WoW even farmville). It also gets extremely hot and if you want to play with it on your lap you HAVE to have a cooling pad, but good luck finding one large enough for this monster. Also, the corners are very sharp and dig into your arms after a while.
I got this as a replacement for my old laptop through the accidental damage warranty, just glad I didn't actually pay for this model cuz I would be really upset then! Don't waste your money, there are much better gaming laptops out there.

Laptop Dell XPS 10 XPS10-3636BLK Deals & Reviews

M. Anaximenes (Boston, MA): Overall, the Asus VivoTab was my selection as I found that it outperformed the competition in the areas critical to our business need, however the Dell XPS stacks up fairly well and deserves an honorable mention as the runner up. While Dell Tablets aren't generally viewed as the top of the heap these days, they have produced a viable, quality and well built offering in the XPS 10. Prior to this one, my last experience with a Dell tab was with the Streak, an android powered device which I found unremarkable. I am happy to say that the overall build and design of the XPS is a dramatic improvement and offers far greater durability, battery life and screen responsiveness.

ST (Portland, OR): First things first.
Amazon seems to have some incorrect specs and information on the 'XPS 10' I hope to clear this up for some of you. The following is the latest information on the xps10 Tablet.
XPS 10 OS is windows 'RT' NOT windows '8' (that is the Latitude 10 tablet)
XPS 10 CPU is the 'Qualcom Snapdragon S4 dual core 1.5 ghz' NOT the 'Intel Atom'
and again (that is the Latitude 10 tablet).
XPS 10 Has dual band WiFi plus Bluetooth 4.0 NOT single band WiFi, and once again (that is the Latitude 10) and there are a few other things which I do not need to go into.

West Boston NiNi (MA USA): There is a very EASY search method to use at the 'Windows app store' when you are searching for a specific app, For example I needed an app which would play 'mpg' format vids, now I knew the app store had an app that could play these vids because every time my tablet refused to play that format it would end by saying 'There is an app at the app store which can play this format, Now without puting too fine a point on the matter, there are alot of apps at the store and It would take forever to look through them all, and yes I did spend a few hours searching, hence my uninformed badmouthing of Microsoft, well these boys were alot smarter than I thought and as it turns out 'smarter than me'. While at the 'Windows App Store' looking for an app, do the following,,,,swipe your finger from the Right side outside edge inward, this will bring up a menu of 'Icons' select the one which looks like a magnifying glass and tap it.

Chad Hensley (Purcell, OK United States): XPS 10 - Performance is good with Windows RT. Everything works well. Performance is much better than the old Atom netbooks and even the one I had before this one that had an AMD-C50 and 4GB of RAM. There have been a number of system updates and it seems they have fixed a few buggy behaviors that existed out of the box. Battery life is very good, excellent with the keyboard dock. I unplug in the morning, use it all day and still have life left at the end of the day. Screen quality is much better than a netbook. Wireless performance is good, better than other portable devices we have in our home and office including iPads. The keyboard is much better than a netbook keyboard, but the touchpad is sensitive and doesn't have palm rejection. Media playback is a strength, with strong video playback performance and good speakers for a device this size. The keyboard dock has one strange limitation. The tablet drains it's battery all the way before it starts using the battery in the keyboard dock, so you cannot undock the tablet when the battery is drained without it immediately shutting down, even though you can use it for many more hours if it stays docked.

Laptop Dell vostro V13 silver Deals & Reviews

P. knight "Speed expert" (Caribbean): The first thing to mention is that these units are disappearing rapidly as inventory lowers and Dell stopped production as of May 1, 2011. There were specials on for over a month as Dell popped them out at a ridiculously low $350 US, presumably using the existing tooling until a new model went into production. Like a fool, all my instincts told me I should have bought a few and after receiving mine on May 6th, I realized that I should have bought a dozen at that price.
Well I managed to get one for myself (at least) and here is the info that should assist any and everyone in deciding if they should buy one.

Julian A. Schulz "Julian" (Boston, MA): I bought one of these used (this model is no longer available from Dell), and I like it a lot.
Let me point out right away though it's one bad point: short battery life. 3 - 4 hours for web surfing etc. Less for more demanding tasks like playing video.
If you can live with that, I highly recommend it. It's not much heavier or bigger than a netbook. It's wider and deeper but it's really thin, so overall size comes out about the same really. You get a much better CPU (low voltage core2duo in mine), a 13.3" HD resolution screen, and a full-size keyboard. A major plus for my usage is that it plays full HD videos with no sweat, even streaming videos. Atom-powered netbooks just can't do this.

Jgreg25 "jgreg25" (Dallas, TX):  I find it absolutely incredible, that Dell can let these stellar machines go, for a mere 350.00
If you poke around, you can find them at this price, though they are becoming scarce.
For a few dollars more than a lowly, in-efficient netbook, you can get this Dell V13, boasting
a HD 13.3 inch WS display, in a semi-glossy (more matte) finish.
It also features a slick, uber-thin brushed aluminum caseing, that is nothing short of gorgeous.
You get a dual core processor, 2 GB of ram, plenty of speed & power, that blows the latest atom processors, out of the
water.

Carole Eastman (Los Angeles, CA): I just received my Vostro V-13, and I LOVE it!! I highly recommend grabbing one. For the price, this little monster is nothing short of AWESOME! Mine has 4g of RAM and 320 gb of memory, and it's lighning fast! I LOVE the keyboard too. I can type at lightning speed with this little baby. It comes wi-fi ready with Windows 7 and Microsoft Word pre-installed, along with other goodies, including a program for your music which is Amazon compatible, and a few games pre-loaded, and other programs to handle your photographs and your media. The resolution on the LCD screen is amazing. You can pay so much more for a great little laptop, but why should you? This one is comparable to Apple's Macbook Air, but I actually like the Vostro V-13 better. It comes in a sleek little super-thin silver chrome case with a 13.3" screen. It's highly competitive in all areas! All the reviews I read here said that this older Vostro V-13 outshines the newer Vostro V-130 and V-131 models, and I'm sure they are right, as this little machine rocks!!

Laptop Dell XPS XPS15-9062sLV Deals & Reviews

Shane Fulford(Chicago, USA): I got this PC against my better judgement. I figured I would have better luck than others since Dell is using a different wireless adapter from the units that had problems this summer. Well, I can confirm that the problem might be slightly improved but there is a ways to go in terms of making this unit what it should be.
The range as the story goes on this unit is terrible. I have tested it out in a few different areas in my house and it drops connections in areas that a 12 year old Dell beater I took from work stays connected in.

Andrew Rutan (Canada): So I am selling one of these in my web store so I might be a little biased, but I really do use one of these on a day to day basis and love it. I am also a Web developer / Designer and have multiple resource intensive programs open at the same time like Photoshop, Visual Studio, Illustrator, SQL server, and IIS.
I upgraded to 8GB of Ram, but have never had any problem running all those programs at once due to processor issues. This thing is just a beast and it looks slick to.

M. Choo (New Jersey)I bought this laptop because I liked the form factor and durability. I travel constantly, and the Lenovo computer I have has taken quite a beating, with plastic bits breaking off near the heat vent or around the USB ports. So I thought I'd get something that seems a bit more durable, so I chose the XPS 15.
Unfortunately I only was able to use it for a few days before the issues began. After a day of trying to diagnose why it would shut off, I realized that simply putting pressure on the lower left side of the bottom panel would cause it to immediately shut down, pressure such as placing your palms on the palm rest while typing, or picking the laptop up to more it to another place. Which is why one typically buys a laptop.

Javier I. Villegas "Javier" (Buenos Aires, Argentina): Overall the laptop is nice; however, one glaring exception is the wifi card. The Dell 1901 card that comes with this is horrible. I have two iPads (2nd and 3rd gen), a Windows Phone, a Lenovo, a MacBook Pro and a MacBook which all connect to the router without issue at twice the distance from the router. While the Dell can only see my router, the rest of the devices finds 5-10 other routers in the area. If I'm more than 10' from the router, the Dell constantly drops the connection. Even if it can connect, then it's horribly slow. Totally unusable. I had to get a USB wifi adapter to make it even usable. And again, it can connect at twice the distance.

Laptop Dell XPS 12 Convertible Deals & Reviews

Matthew J. Kreuscher "Matt K" (Milwaukee, WI): Overall, this is a great product. With the ability to flip the screen and turn it into a tablet, it separates it from others. It is faster than any tablet and works as well as most ultrabooks. If it was a bit lighter, it would be amazing! Some people say it isn't worth the price. To me, it is. I no longer need a tablet and a laptop. In fact, I sold my tablet and my netbook, which paid for more than half of this device. I would definitely recommend. I also looked at the Asus Taichi. I chose this device solely due to the poor battery life on the Asus.

Rajive Kumar (Seattle, WA USA): I love the laptop (I would have absolutely loved it, if it were not for the issues noted below), it is light and easy to convert between a tablet and a laptop. This is one of the very few touch screen laptops in the market with 1080p resolution and I absolutely love the extra real estate. With Windows 8, the touch interface seems to come alive, especially some of the Microsoft bundled apps with Windows 8, like travel, news, finance etc which you can experience to its fullness. Btw, I have the Core i7 version.

David Pearlman "sound fanatic" (Arlington, MA): This is one of a new breed of convertible laptops created to take advantage of the Windows 8 paradigm, which allows use as both as tablet and a laptop. While this category is expected to grow, right now, there are essentially only a modest number of entrants, and only two that could be reasonably be called innovative: The Dell XPS 12 (this one), and the Lenovo Yoga 13. The Dell and Lenovo sport similar power specs (cpu, memory, hard drive, battery life), but the Dell has a much higher resolution, better, screen. In my opinion, the Dell takes that competition handily.

Jules (Santa Cruz, California, USA): At first I was going to buy a tablet....I wanted the portability of the small size. I was going to take it with me on a trip. I planned on uploading photos, editing them with a Microsoft program, and using Microsoft Office to check my emails via Outlook and view and sync my Outlook calendar. Tablets use the Andoid OS (Operating System) which was originally desiged for cell phone usage. So I realized for my purposes, I needed a real computer. The Windows 8 operating system was really designed for a touchscreen. It is a shame to use it without a touch screen. The Dell convertible with the screen flipped around looks like a tablet....the touch screen works great and a virtual keyboard appears on the screen when you touch a button to type something. It has more speed, storage, memory, etc. than a tablet or a Microsoft Surface Pro. So far no problems and it has been a wow factor as I discover new features of it and the Windows 8.

Laptop Dell XPS XPS13-1000sLV Deals & Reviews

ZPM "zpm" (Baltimore, MD): I am returning the laptop and getting a replacement in hopes of receiving a non defective one. I received a Windows 8 error from the first time I logged on and put all my information in. After I finally got through that, the computer (software) was acting up. Programs not working, occasional freezing, wireless connection going in and out. I downloaded a bunch of Windows Updates which seemed to help a lot but the Internet was still just awful.

G. Ryan "Gmy" (St. Louis, MO United States): Very impressive design in person....pictures provide limited justice... My first experience using a ssd drive...neither a hiccup or stall at all and is upgradable. Great ultrabook for my needs....burden less travel - great size slightly under 3lbs. Screen is beautiful at front angle views. Wireless connection is reliable and strong. Windows 8 however is a work in progress as I like what was done 'under hood' over Win 7 but the new start mode but requires practice.

Pablo (plantation, Florida, US): I ordered my Dell directly from the company. It was an XPS 12 which I believe is basically the same as this model except that the screen flips so the computer can function as a tablet. I received the computer on in mid-November
and it has been nothing but trouble since. As the previous reviewer said, the computer did not run all programs, it froze, and the wireless connection went in and out. The touch screen responded to touch only some of the time, and the screen kept flipping size, sometimes becoming so small as to be unreadable and no matter what I tried, I could not get the type and pictures to normal size until the computer decided to do that itself. No updates, including updated drivers, made any difference. Beginning on December 9, calls went back and forth to Dell and fixes were offered but the computer still did not work. One additional thing on the xps 12.

Trauquen(China): What amazed me when I read the previous review is that it is clear that the defects in my computer were not isolated problems, yet the company continues to ship computers without the defects having been fixed. The company also wasted a lot of my time offering fixes when it should be apparent to them that the the computers are defective. Now I am waiting to receive another machine, for which the process cannot be expedited, only the shipping, and the company is not even sure if there is a computer available though one could have been put on hold for me on the 28th since there was a possibility my computer would require a replacement. And I am afraid the replacement computer will not function better than the the first one.

Laptop Dell XPS XPS13-40002sLV Deals & Reviews

Zach(Ca,USA): Great product, very happy with my purchase. The laptop is constructed amazingly well and really feels premium. The soft touch keyboard deck is much more comfortable than the aluminum of the Macbook Air or Pro. I use the laptop on my lap and it never feels warm. Very quiet. SSD speeds up the computer. From boot to opening the web browser takes about 20 second with no slow down at all. Trackpad is great, just make sure you install the latest touchpad drivers on the Dell website. It was awful at first but now it is definitely acceptable and responsive. Only thing I wish was better is the screen. Wish the resolution was higher and viewing angles were better. That is my only problem with this amazing ultrabook.

Chris G(Chile): Netbooks were never an option for me, but I wanted something small like a netbook with just a bit more oomph. Then Intel started pushing these "Ultrabooks" into the market, and I gotta say I love it. I've owned Dell Desktops my whole life, but this is my first Dell laptop. I've had a couple HP laptops that have burnt out on me after just a couple years. So far, this little guy is doing just fine. Right away, I noticed that it doesn't ever get nearly as hot as my HP laptops did.

Y. Ittach (Israel): I'm a software engineer and a maters student, and I bought this laptop both for work and for my studies. I have it for almost a year now, and I don't have a single word of complaint to say about it. It goes up FAST, the battery time is great, the keyboard and touch pad are top notch (you never notice they're there - which is the highest praise I can give to a keyboard and a touch pad), it looks amazing, the it's light weight and even the speakers are actually fun to listen to.

Bri (Florida, USA): Bought this from amazon themselves, not a "seller" per se. It arrived a day earlier than expected so all in all it took 2 working days instead of 3-5 which was great! The laptop itself was packaged in an amazon box, then the dell box, then the xps box. The computer is beautiful! Super light, though hevier than it looks, and super thin. The lines and profiles are absolutely beautiful. Everyone who has seen me with the laptop has asked me about it and expressed how much they love how it looks. I bought it specfically for school. As a barrister in training I carry around a brief case filled with a hell of a lot of papers and books etc and needed a laptop (NOT a netbook) thin and light enough to fit in with everything else. Not only does it look beautiful, professional and serve its purpose, but this thing PERFORMS.

Laptop Dell XPS 13 XPS13R2-1050sLV Deals & Reviews

Comparative Anatomist(NY): I bought mine directly from Dell. Here are the pros--It is extremely light and compact with a large screen for its size. It feels almost like an ipad (which I have) in weight. The carbon fiber back really helps and gives it a bit of a grip on your lap. It also doesn't burn your thighs like a traditional laptop. The USB ports make this a living breathing computer and with windows installed I find myself reaching for this more than my ipad. Then again, I spend most of my time making word documents, powerpoints, spreadsheets, and stats rather than surfing the web and checking email. Although small, the chicklet keypad isn't cramped and feels smooth under your fingers.

George Georgalliis(California): This seems to be a fine laptop, I've been traveling with it for a couple of months now. It seems a bit finicky with internet (WIFI) connections, but that may just be due to the quality of available connections. However, the track pad is just awful. Sometimes when I don't even touch the touch pad, the mouse pointer jumps around. I don't like the feel of the pad surface, and it's not smooth so it's hard for me to make subtle gestures consistently. I've turned off all the bells and whistles (i.e., two finger gestures) and turned down sensitivity in the hopes it will respond only to deliberate touches on the pad, but it's still overly finicky sometimes and not very responsive other times. I had heard about this problem before buying, and usually use a mouse anyway, but it's still a problem.

P. Benda (Virginia): Incredible laptop. I nuked the OS when I received it and installed Linux Mint and have not one bad thing to say about it. It's incredibly fast, light and durable. It feels very well made yet has some features I wish Apple would consider for their own laptops. For instance, I love aluminum cased laptops, but better for heat dissipation, looks great and durability. However when working with an all aluminum laptop it can get VERY hot and tends to be a bit slippery if on your clothed lap. This XPS is designed perfectly with a textured rubber of sorts on the bottom so it doesn't slide yet maintains the aluminum cover and frame.

Omar Zeciri (Chicago, USA): The TN display isn't great. I prefer wider viewing angles than this. I use mine plugged in and the power cord doesn't click into the computer. Mine has a bad habit of falling out if I twitch just a little and then you end up draining your battery and not knowing it. Dell should have thought this through a bit more. An SD card port would have been nice, but that's easy enough to fix with a couple of USB ports. The mouse pad is horrible--I mean terrible. It jumps around whether you touch it or not. The keyboard feels great and the fact that it lights up is another plus, but the space bar sticks and so do several other keys. I expect that after five years of pounding on a computer. I don't expect it when it is brand new. Between the cord issues, the poor tracking on the pad, and the sticky keys, I expect better especially given what I paid for it.
